A traditional and very useful trick for store rice correctly consists of adding inside the storage container a couple of dried bay leaves.
Bay leaves release a aromatic and delicate perfume, which does not alter the flavor of the rice but helps keep it pleasant and fresh for longer. In addition to this effect, bay leaves also perform a protective: thanks to its intensely scented essential oils, it acts as a natural repellent against insect pests, in particular the rice weevil (sitophilus oryzae), a small, widespread beetle that feeds on grains and can compromise the quality of the cereal.
By placing two bay leaves directly into the jar or bag where the rice is stored, a double action is obtained: on the one hand, a natural and discreet fragrance, on the other hand one effective and non-chemical protectionagainst insects.
This simple and economical method allows you to best preserve rice over time, maintaining its freshness and quality intact.
