The second name of scallops…

Le scallops, delicious seafood much appreciated in the kitchen, are also known by another traditional name: St. James's shells.

This name derives from the fact that their shell, with its characteristic fan shape, has been associated for centuries with the symbol of the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela, in Spain, where it represents an emblem of devotion and protection for travellers.

In addition to their symbolic value, scallops are distinguished by their tender and delicate meat, with a refined taste, which makes them the protagonists of numerous gastronomic preparations, both simple and elaborate.

In the kitchen, therefore, scallops or San Giacomo shells are confirmed as an ingredient rich in history, tradition and flavour, capable of combining culture and culinary pleasure.
